Howard G Mpumi Masimini (Wilson) yesterday was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's offensive lineman of the year and freshman S Vontrae Long was named the conference's rookie of the year. Four Bison players were voted to the all-MEAC first team--Masimini, WR Elijah Thurmon, DT Doug Miller and CB Omar Evans.

TORBUSH FIRING?: North Carolina's plunge from a top 10 program to last place in the ACC over a two-year period will cost Coach Carl Torbush his job, sources told the AP. Torbush, 2-0 in bowl games but 10-13 overall since replacing Mack Brown, will be fired after Saturday's season finale against Duke. . . .
