Christine Robella

School: West Potomac.

Sport: Gymnastics.

Year: Freshman.

Highlights: Won the all-around competitions in her first two high school meets, scoring a 38.15 (out of 40) at the South Lakes Invitational on Dec. 11 and a 36.8 on Dec. 8 at Hayfield. "She's definitely been a big morale booster for the girls ... and for the team," West Potomac Coach Ellen Hagen said. "She's helped bring us recognition."

Notable: Has trained at Capital Gymnastics Training Center in Burke for five years. In club competition, won 1996 regional meet involving club competitors from seven Mid-Atlantic states. Enjoys high school competition. "High school makes you feel more like a team. With clubs it's more for individuals," she said. Swims competitively in the summer at Riverside Gardens Community Pool. Holds the Northern Virginia Swimming League record for the 25-yard butterfly with a time of 16.34 seconds.

Personal: Maintains a 3.6 grade-point average. Introduced to gymnastics by her father, Barry, a former gymnast at West Point, where her brother, John, is a gymnast. Sister Vicki plays midfield on the West Potomac soccer team.

Sammy Sesay

School: Eleanor Roosevelt.

Sport: Indoor track.

Year: Sophomore.

Highlights: Ran on sprint medley relay team that placed second in the 4x200 at the Towson Relays. Ran 23-second split as third leg of the 4x200 to help team capture third place in Saturday's F.I.T. Relays at George Mason. Career-best in long jump is 22 feet 10 inches.

Notable: As a freshman, was part of relay team that won the Maryland regional 4A championships in the 4x200. In the novice category, he placed third in the 100 and second in the 200 at the Prince George's County championships. Has spent two years at cornerback on the football team that, this year, captured the state title.

Personal: Maintains a 3.29 grade-point average. Older sister, Ola, is an all-American long jumper and hurdler at North Carolina.
