Bill Belichick has filed a grievance against the Jets with the league over his inability to negotiate with anyone else once former coach Bill Parcells stepped down.

"We received a formal grievance from Bill Belichick's attorney today and have asked the Jets to respond in writing by the close of business on Monday," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said.

Parcells, the Jets' chief of football operations, said he is moving forward with salary cap and free agency issues, but that nothing concerning a coach would be settled until either Cablevision chairman Charles Dolan or Johnson & Johnson heir Robert Wood Johnson IV is selected as the team's new owner.
