Lucienne Berthieu scored 17 points and Natalie Diaz added 16 to lead No. 21 Old Dominion to an 84-65 victory over host North Carolina Wilmington in a Colonial Athletic Association opener last night.

Old Dominion (8-3) got 12 points from Kim Giddens and 11 rebounds from Tanty Maiga.

North Carolina Wilmington (7-5) was led by LaTonia Beale with 16 points. Chandra Watkins scored 10 points, and Ioulia Boxley added nine points and 13 rebounds.

The teams battled to a 39-39 tie in rebounding, but Old Dominion shot 54 percent and held the Seahawks to 38 percent.

Old Dominion shot 63 percent in the first half, hitting 4 of 6 three-pointers, to lead 44-31 at halftime.

* ILLINOIS 86, IOWA 60: Allison Curtin scored 27 points to lead four players in double figures as the No. 18 Illini rolled in a Big Ten game in Iowa City.

Illinois (13-4, 3-0) led 32-23 at halftime and put the game away with 54 second-half points.

Susan Blauser scored 22 points for the Illini, Tauja Catchings added 20 and Shavonna Hunter chipped in with 10.

Blauser led the Illini with nine rebounds.

Iowa fell to 4-8, 1-2. The only Hawkeyes in double figures were Cara Consuegra with 20 points and Lindsey Meder with 19.

* TULANE 74, UAB 73: In New Orleans, Janell Burse's two free throws with 40 seconds remaining lifted the No. 19 Green Wave to a Conference USA-record 13th consecutive victory.

Burse's game-winning shots completed a 9-0 run that enabled Tulane (13-0, 2-0 CUSA) to overcome a 73-65 lead by UAB (8-5, 0-2) with 4 minutes 16 seconds left.

* UCLA 90, WASHINGTON 54: In Los Angeles, guard Nicole Kaczmarski scored 17 points to lead 17th-ranked UCLA (7-4) to victory over Washington in a Pac-10 opener. The Bruins had five players in double figures.
