Dennis Mims scored 20 points and Brendan Dunlop added 18 to lead Virginia Tech to an 80-59 victory over visiting Duquesne last night.
The Hokies (7-7, 1-2 Atlantic 10) shot nearly 62 percent in the first half to open a nine-point lead by intermission.
The Dukes struggled throughout the second half with 23 percent shooting.
Mims added seven rebounds for Virginia Tech, which outrebounded Duquesne 41-28. Rolan Roberts scored 14 points for the Hokies.
The Dukes (7-7, 2-1) scored 18 points off turnovers compared with nine for the Hokies, but ended the game shooting 27 percent. Wayne Smith led Duquesne with 18 points.
NAVY 77, BUCKNELL 70: Sitapha Savane scored a game-high 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked six shots to lead the visiting Midshipmen in the Patriot League opener for both teams.
Navy (10-4, 1-0) snapped a five-game losing streak in Lewisburg, Pa., and won for the second time in 12 attempts there. The Bison fell to 7-7, 0-1.
CATHOLIC 89, YORK 69: The Cardinals got 16 points and 14 rebounds from Matt Lepeonka to improve to 11-1, 3-0 in the Capital Athletic Conference with the win in York, Pa. Pat Maloney (20 points) Tim Judge (19) and Dan Harrington (15) also scored in double figures for Catholic. York fell to 5-6, 0-3.
