Junior G Mike King returned to practice with the George Washington men's basketball team yesterday for the first time since injuring his shoulder against Siena on Dec. 11. King, who averages 10.3 points and four rebounds per game, missed six games. Coach Tom Penders said that King is not likely to start but probably will play against St. Joseph's on Wednesday.

Attila Cosby also practiced yesterday for the first time with the Colonials since transferring from New Mexico. He can practice, but not play, for GW until he sits out two semesters. . . .

The GW women's basketball team moved into the Associated Press top 25 poll for the first time this season. The Colonials (13-2, 2-0 Atlantic 10), ranked 24th in the latest poll, have an 11-game winning streak. Freshman F Erica Lawrence was selected the Atlantic 10 rookie of the week. Freshman G Chris Monroe (Good Counsel) was named men's conference rookie of the week.

CLOSE CALL: A chartered plane carrying the Missouri men's basketball team made an emergency landing last night because of fears the plane was losing pressurization.

The DC-9 charter with 34 people on board landed safely at the Springfield, Mo., airport after passengers heard a "swishing" noise. It was determined that a seal had broken on a window. The seal was fixed, and the plane continued on to Dallas. The Tigers will play Baylor in Waco, Tex., today.
