Highlights: Senior is 9-1 through four meets and has qualified for next month's Virginia High School League AAA championships in the 100- and 200-meter freestyle and the 100 butterfly. Top times in those events are 48.9 seconds (100 freestyle), 1 minute 46 seconds (200) and 55.3 (100 fly).
Notable: Bourgeois, who began swimming four years ago, was named captain and most valuable swimmer for the Hornets his sophomore and junior years. Also was an All-Met honorable mention last year. "It takes a lot of dedication and a lot of time," Bourgeois said about swimming. "I don't think I would do it if I didn't love it." Also swims year-round with Curl-Burke Swim Club.
Personal: Qualified for a National Merit Scholarship and carries a 3.4 grade-point average. Interested in attending N.C. State, Clemson or South Carolina to study marine science.
Sport: Indoor track
Highlights: Third-year indoor team captain is undefeated (4-0) in the 55-meter hurdles this season. Senior set 10th fastest time in nation, placing fourth in the 300 at the Virginia Tech Invitational Jan. 8. Named most valuable runner on indoor team her sophomore and junior years. Won the Maryland 4A title in the 300-intermediate hurdles her sophomore year.
Notable: Felder, an honorable mention All-Met in outdoor track her sophomore and junior years, was named most valuable runner at the Capital Beltway Invitational at UMBC last year in outdoor track, winning the 400 and 300 hurdles. Captain of the outdoor track and cross-country teams her sophomore and junior years. Began hurdling at the insistence of Coach Troy Shockley her sophomore year. "At first, I didn't like it," Felder said, "but then I realized I was good at it."
Personal: Has signed to attend West Virginia, where she intends to major in physical therapy. Has a 3.45 grade-point average in the International Baccalaureate program.
