Mark Davis of the Warriors and Gary Trent of the Mavericks were suspended for one game without pay by the NBA. Trent also was fined $10,000 and Davis $7,500. Davis was penalized for picking up Dallas's Shawn Bradley and throwing him to the floor during the third quarter of the Mavericks' 117-103 win on Tuesday. Bradley was fined $3,000 for retaliating. Trent was suspended for confronting the Warriors' Vonteego Cummings in the locker room. Cummings was fined $7,500 for a flagrant foul against Steve Nash in the third quarter.
* DALLAS BOUND: Former NBA G Derek Harper is close to joining the Mavericks as a front-office executive, now that the Pistons have dropped their demand for compensation, said his agent, George Andrews. Harper retired after he was traded from the Lakers to Detroit in September. Detroit refused to allow Harper to join the Mavericks, the team with which he spent the first 10-plus seasons of his career.
* MOVING UP: The NBA announced the following senior-level promotions: Rod Thorn was promoted from senior vice president to executive vice president, basketball operations; Joel Litvin was promoted from senior vice president to executive vice president, legal and business affairs; and Mike Bantom was promoted from vice president to senior vice president, player and basketball development.
