With no time remaining, Chris Waechter's third missed extra point kick of the game ended Catholic's comeback attempt as the Cardinals lost, 48-47, to Emory & Henry in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game in Emory, Va.
Catholic (3-5, 1-3) nearly sent the game into overtime after quarterback Bill Sutton (DeMatha) connected with wide receiver Nick Bublavi on an 18-yard scoring pass near the end of the fourth quarter.
Sutton threw for a career-high 397 yards and five touchdowns. He also was intercepted twice. Bublavi caught seven passes for 119 yards and three touchdowns. Tokollo Moffat (Good Counsel) scored twice, gaining 124 yards on 24 carries.
* FAYETTEVILLE STATE 13, BOWIE STATE 7: Safety Eric Blackwell intercepted a pass and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown with less than two minutes remaining as the Broncos (8-1, 6-0 CIAA) won at home.
Bowie State (5-4, 4-2) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 24-yard touchdown run by Kelvin Collins. Bulldogs running back Caleb Cranke rushed for 99 yards on 21 carries. Bowie State can win the CIAA Eastern Division title next week at home with a win over Virginia State.
* VALLEY FORGE 9, MONTGOMERY-ROCKVILLE 0: In Rockville, Valley Forge scored on a botched Knights snap for a safety in the first quarter, and a 50-yard scoring pass in the second. Montgomery-Rockville (4-3) was held to 150 yards total offense.
