West Springfield graduate Jeff Carroll and DeMatha senior Larry Mark have been named to the National Soccer Coaches' Association of America high school all-American team. Carroll, a midfielder who played for St. John's University this fall, was a two-time All-Met at West Springfield, helping lead the Spartans to consecutive Virginia AAA championships. Mark, a forward, had 19 goals and seven assists for the Stags this fall. He will play for Rutgers next year.

No Gym for Seahawks

The South Lakes girls' basketball team was forced to play last night's home game against Washington-Lee in Arlington because the Seahawks' gymnasium was closed by Fairfax County officials two weeks ago due to structural problems, South Lakes Athletic Director Pat Henthorn said.

Trimble Named

O'Connell named Steve Trimble its football coach, replacing veteran Darrell Snyder, who retired last week.

Trimble, 44, was an assistant under Snyder for the past three seasons, serving as defensive coordinator last year. . . . Langley football coach J.J. Hetman will not return to the school next season, Athletic Director Alice Gooley said. In two seasons Hetman led the Saxons to 4-5 and 2-7 records, respectively. . . .

Robinson three-sport athlete Adam Fassnacht has signed a national letter of intent to play lacrosse at Virginia next season. Fassnacht, a 5-foot-11, 230-pound All-Met football player, plays midfielder for the Rams' lacrosse team and last year had 45 goals and 25 assists to lead them to the Virginia AAA state title.
