Jocelyn Thibault stopped 28 shots for his fourth shutout and Eric Daze scored as the Blackhawks stopped the Ottawa Senators' 10-game unbeaten streak with a 1-0 victory last night in Chicago.
The win was only the second for Chicago in its last eight games (2-6), and it wasn't easy. The Blackhawks and Thibault had to kill a major penalty to Ryan VandenBussche late in the third period to earn the victory in their first home game following a 1-6 road trip.
The shutout was Thibault's 31st of his career, and the first against the Senators this season.
Patrick Lalime faced 18 shots, and Marian Hossa saw his 13-game point scoring streak end. He had 12 goals and 10 assists in the stretch.
* CANUCKS 3, DEVILS 2: Todd Bertuzzi got his second goal of the game on a scramble in front 56 seconds into overtime to lift visiting Vancouver.
Trevor Linden also scored, and Dan Cloutier made 24 saves as the Canucks rebounded just one night after having their franchise-record 10-game winning streak snapped.
Scott Niedermayer and Brian Gionta scored for New Jersey, which had its three-game winning streak ended.
Bertuzzi, who tied the game early in the third period, had a wide-open net on the game-winner that handed New Jersey only its second overtime loss in eight games.
* STARS 5, CANADIENS 1: Jason Arnott scored three goals, two on setups by Pierre Turgeon, and Dallas remained unbeaten at home in regulation.
Arnott had his fourth career hat trick and the first by a Dallas player since Brett Hull scored four goals on March 21, 2001.
Jere Lehtinen and Mike Modano added third-period goals for Dallas, 10-0-0-1 at home this season.
Marty Turco made 25 saves, and the Stars killed off all seven power plays.
The Arnott-Turgeon-Scott Young line continues to thrive. In the last five games, Turgeon has 10 assists, Arnott has five goals and an assist, and Young has four goals and an assist.
* PANTHERS 4, HURRICANES 2: Olli Jokinen scored two goals as Florida defeated visiting Carolina. Viktor Kozlov and Stephen Weiss also scored for Florida, which won for the second time in 11 games (2-2-5-2). Roberto Luongo made 31 saves in the win.
* SABRES 4, MIGHTY DUCKS 0: Curtis Brown scored three goals for the first time in his NHL career, and Martin Biron made 22 saves for his first shutout of the season during Buffalo's home victory.
