The Rough Riders ended two droughts last week by defeating DCIAA East Division powers H.D. Woodson and Anacostia for the first time in 13 and 11 years, respectively. Leading scorer Diamond Mitchell (20 ppg) sank a layup with two seconds left for a 61-59 victory over the Warriors on Dec. 10. Three days later, they beat the Indians, 51-46.
W.T. Woodson Sophomore Adriana Lemaitre
Guard Adriana Lemaitre has been a surprising threat for the Cavaliers (3-1) this season averaging 17 ppg -- double her average last year.
Mount Hebron (3-0, 2-0 Howard) graduated three starters from its county championship squad, but its key holdover has kept the team moving. Reigning Howard County player of the year Kristen Waagbo is averaging 23 ppg and 11 rpg.
Springbrook (3-0) has emerged as a contender in the Montgomery County 4A/3A East division. The Blue Devils have three starters in double figures -- junior guard Jada Richardson (15.3 ppg), sophomore forward Keisha Haddock (14 ppg) and junior forward Colleen Orton (10.7).
LaPlata Senior Kia Stewart
The forward scored a career-high 39 points to help the Warriors (3-0) overcome a 17-point deficit to Thomas Stone after one quarter Friday and earn a 61-51 victory in overtime.
Meade Junior Victoria Lawson
The guard has provided a potent outside threat for the Mustangs (3-0) this season, nearly doubling her scoring average from last season with 17 ppg.
Suitland Senior Valencia Brown
The guard has stepped up to help lone returning starter junior forward Rae Rae Mobley. Brown scored a career-best 29 points and Mobley added a career-best 23 points to lift the Rams to an 81-74 double-overtime victory over Largo on Friday.
