Holdout Bruins D Kyle McLaren was traded to the Sharks on yesterday in a three-team deal that sent F Niklas Sundstrom to the Canadiens.

The Bruins acquired veteran G Jeff Hackett from the Canadiens and young D Jeff Jillson from the Sharks. Montreal got the Sharks' third-round selection in the 2004 draft, and Boston sent a fourth-round pick in the 2004 draft to San Jose.

McLaren, 25, had 124 points in 417 career games with the Bruins, but he hasn't played this season because of a contract dispute.

The Sharks, who have been desperate for consistent defensive play during their disappointing season, gave up on young prospect Jillson to acquire a more mature defenseman.

Fleury has apologized to his teammates.

Coach Brian Sutter said Fleury and two unidentified teammates will be disciplined by the team, but Fleury didn't violate his aftercare program. The Blackhawks said this is an "internal team matter."

* BACK FOR MORE?: As Mark Hamister faces his third deadline to complete his conditional purchase of the bankrupt Sabres, failed bidder Thomas Golisano wants to get back in the running to buy the team.

Golisano, a Rochester-based billionaire and former New York gubernatorial candidate, sent a letter to Commissioner Gary Bettman restating his interest to buy the Sabres and keep them in Buffalo.

* AILING: Islanders G Chris Osgood will miss three to four weeks and D Eric Cairns will be out up to six weeks with injuries.
