Vince Carter never considered giving up his starting spot to Michael Jordan in the All-Star Game, saying it would be rude to fans who voted for the Raptors' star.
Carter was the third-leading vote-getter for the Feb. 9 All-Star Game in Atlanta despite playing in just 10 games before the final ballots were cast because of knee problems.
Carter has taken some grief this week for not offering his spot to Jordan, who was added to the Eastern Conference team as a reserve and likely will be making his final all-star appearance.
Allen Iverson of the 76ers offered his spot to Jordan last week and Magic F Tracy McGrady, Carter's cousin, publicly offered to step aside Thursday. Jordan declined their offers.
"I think sometimes they just say it without sitting back and thinking, 'Okay, why is he making that decision?' " Carter said. "There is a reason why, and it's the million-plus people that voted for me."
* KIDD AILING: Nets G Jason Kidd missed last night's game against the Hornets because of a groin injury, and is expected to miss today's game in Detroit.
New Jersey Coach Byron Scott said he was considering having Kidd rest until the All-Star Game.
* OLOWOKANDI OUT: Clippers C Michael Olowokandi has been placed on the injured list with a sprained left knee and will undergo tests Monday to determine the extent of his injury.
Olowokandi, averaging 12.3 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.2 blocked shots, is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
