The Xavier women's basketball team outlasted George Washington in four overtimes -- the longest game in either program's history -- handing the Colonials their first conference loss of the season, 94-92, yesterday in Cincinnati.
Xavier (15-7, 7-4 Atlantic 10), which used only seven players -- two of whom fouled out -- was led by freshman Tara Boothe (31 points, 19 rebounds). Reetta Piipari (22 points) hit a three-pointer with 18 seconds left to seal the victory, and Amy Waugh (20 points) added four free throws in the final overtime session. The Colonials missed two foul shots in the last 1 minute 20 seconds of the game.
George Washington (15-6, 9-1) was led by Cathy Joens, who had 21 points and five rebounds.
GW's Greeba Outen Barlow (16 points) forced the first overtime by hitting a three-pointer from the top of the key as time expired.
* CLEMSON 85, MARYLAND 67: Freshman Amanda White scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Tigers at home.
Julie Aderhold and Maggie Slosser added 11 apiece for Clemson (12-10, 4-7 ACC).
Chrissy Fisher led the Terrapins (9-13, 3-8) with 20 points.
* VIRGINIA TECH 53, NOTRE DAME 50: In Blacksburg, Va., Carrie Mason converted a three-point play with 13 seconds left, propelling the Hokies (16-5, 7-3 Big East) past Notre Dame (13-8, 5-5). Mason, who made 2 of 4 three-pointers and scored 11 points, was fouled on a last-second jumper.
* UNC WILMINGTON 86, GEORGE MASON 64: Shameka Montgomery scored 24 points as the Seahawks (16-4, 8-3) won a Colonial Athletic Association game at home. Jen Derevjanik had 16 points for the Patriots (8-10, 5-6).
