Nick Sexton

School: Centreville.

Sport: Hockey.

Year: Junior.

Highlights: Co-captain is Wildcats' third-leading scorer with seven goals and nine assists. Scored a goal and assisted on another in Centreville's 5-4 victory over Chantilly in December. Later that month, scored a hat trick against Herndon. Had a team-high 10 goals as a sophomore and was named Centreville's most valuable player. Plays center but is sometimes moved to defense by Coach Doug Jackson.

Notable: As a freshman, Sexton scored a goal in Centreville's first Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League playoff game, against Chantilly. Was the only sophomore chosen to the NVSHL all-academic team last year. Now in his fourth year playing for Reston Raiders club team, currently playing center on the midget-AA squad.

Personal: Carries a 3.9 grade-point average and is a member of the National Honor Society. Curriculum includes advanced placement English and U.S. History. Member of Centreville chapter of Future Business Leaders of America. Peer tutor at Centreville, assisting students with math and science. Received a school achievement award for photography.

Devon Alston

School: Osbourn Park.

Sports: Indoor track and gymnastics.

Year: Junior.

Highlights: Helped Osbourn Park win the Virginia AAA Cedar Run District indoor track championship this month by finishing second in the 55-meter hurdles (9.24 seconds). Ran a leg of the 4x200 relay team, which finished second in 1:51.54. Was all-state as a sophomore in the 300 hurdles outdoors, finishing fifth at the Virginia AAA championships in a personal-best 45.45 seconds.

Notable: Two days before helping indoor track team win Cedar Run title, she helped the Yellow Jackets win the district gymnastics title. Qualified for states on vault, where she scored a personal-best 9.175 as Osbourn Park finished sixth last Saturday. Ran anchor leg of Osbourn Park's 4x400 relay, which set a school record (4:16) at last April's Penn Relays in Philadelphia. Is defending Cedar Run District and Northwestern Region champion in outdoor 100 and 300 hurdles.

Personal: Has a 3.4 grade-point average. Favorite subject is history. Active in Student Council Association, helping to raise money for school activities. Writes for the school yearbook, The High-Jacket, and the school newspaper, The Yellow Jacket. Last summer, worked with children ages 5 to 11 at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church's vacation bible school.
