Senior Quiteelia Boyd won two events to lead the Westlake girls to an easy victory in the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships yesterday on their home track.

The Patriots finished with 128 points, outdistancing second-place Westlake (81 points) and third-place Patuxent (64).

Boyd captured titles in the long jump and shot put (meet record throw of 42 feet 43/4 inches) as well as earning a second in the triple jump and fourth in the discus to contribute 32 of the team's 165.5 points.

Mount Vernon Wins Title

The top-seeded Mount Vernon's boys' lacrosse team (8-0, 10-3) earned its fifth straight National District title with a 5-3 win over third-seeded Yorktown (6-3, 8-7) at Edison High School.

Junior Truett Valentine, who leads the Majors in scoring with 53 goals and 26 assists, had two goals and one assist against the Patriots.

"It was a very physical aggressive-style game, our defense was tough for them to solve, guys were scrapping and giving everything they possibly can out there," Mount Vernon head coach Dale Nalls said. The Majors will host McLean on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the first round of the Virginia AAA Northern Region tournament.
