With a little more self-assurance in the bank after a win over Brentsville, the 10th-ranked Fauquier girls' soccer team now can focus on trying to win the Virginia AA Northwestern District tournament title.

The Falcons won twice this week, including their 3-2 triumph on Monday over then-No. 9 Brentsville, to claim the district's top seed and an automatic berth in the Region II tournament for the fourth straight season.

"I think it was important for our confidence to know that we could be the best in the district," said Fauquier Coach Daniel Beaver, whose team lost to Brentsville, 2-1, earlier this season. "Brentsville [which was a Group A school until this season] makes the district a bit different, because if you don't win the district, you're going to have to fight to get into the region."

The Falcons made the most of their postseason run last season, reaching the state semifinals before losing to state finalist Loudoun County for the third time that season.

"We went out there last year, and [the Raiders] beat us because they were the better team," Beaver said. "We were having a hard time accepting the way we lost to Brentsville; we needed to get them back."
