Kerry Wood will have a bone scan today after he cut short a live batting practice session yesterday when he felt more discomfort in his right triceps.

The Cubs right-hander was put on the disabled list last Thursday, retroactive to May 12, and hoped to come off this Thursday and pitch Friday in Pittsburgh.

He left a start against the Dodgers on May 11 after two innings because of soreness in the triceps and has missed two starts since. . . .

Diamondbacks 1B Richie Sexson was placed back on the 15-day disabled list yesterday with an injured left shoulder.

Sexson, who partially dislocated and tore a muscle in the shoulder while checking his swing against the Cubs on April 28, aggravated the injury on another check swing against Florida on Saturday -- just his second game since being activated.

* PIRATES PONDER BOONE: The Pirates are interested in signing injured free agent 3B Aaron Boone.

"It's something that's really more of an exploratory situation at this point," GM David Littlefield said. "We're a team that has interest in looking into the situation. We want to stay in touch with him to see where it goes, to see how he progresses physically."
