Diamondbacks doctor Michael Lee recommended season-ending surgery on 1B Richie Sexson's injured left shoulder.

Lee made the comment in a statement released by the team Monday night after he examined Sexson. Lee said the partially torn labrum won't be able to heal on its own this season, although there were no new injuries to the shoulder.

Lee also recommended a second opinion. Sexson is set to be examined next Tuesday or Wednesday by James Andrews of Birmingham.

Sexson, in the final year of his contract, would need up to six months to recover from the operation.

He aggravated the injury on a check swing Saturday against the Marlins and was placed back on the 15-day disabled list Sunday. He was originally hurt while checking his swing on April 28.

* PARK ON DISABLED LIST: The Rangers placed RHP Chan Ho Park on the 15-day disabled list with a sore lower back and recalled right-handed reliever Rosman Garcia from Class AAA Oklahoma.

Park, 2-4 with a 5.80 ERA in eight starts, was the scheduled starter last night against the White Sox but was scratched after experiencing soreness in his back after a workout on Tuesday.

* REHAB FOR BURNETT: Florida RHP A.J. Burnett will make a rehab start with the Marlins' Class AAA Albuquerque affiliate on Friday. Burnett, who has not pitched in the major leagues since April 2003, could be back in the Marlins' rotation by June 2.
