Mark Prior threw 32 pitches off the mound at Wrigley Field and said he is ready for his season debut Friday against the Pirates.
On the disabled list all season with a sore Achilles' tendon and tender elbow, Prior will be on a pitch limit Friday, one the Cubs aren't revealing.
Prior, 18-6 last season, said he's done all the work necessary to come back -- including three rehabilitation starts -- since the injuries started bothering him this spring.
"I think early in spring training we pushed it a little bit, but after that we mapped out a plan, and we knew what it was all along," Prior said.
* OUT: Gold Glove 3B Eric Chavez will be sidelined for at least six weeks with a broken bone in his hand.
Chavez was hurt in the 11th inning of the A's 6-4, 12-inning win over the White Sox on Tuesday after getting hit by a pitch from Damaso Marte.
Infielder Esteban German was recalled yesterday from Class AAA Sacramento to take Chavez's roster spot. . . .
OF Kenny Lofton was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring, and the Yankees recalled RHP Bret Prinz from Class AAA Columbus before their game against the Orioles last night.
Lofton was placed on the DL, retroactive to May 27, late Tuesday night after an MRI exam revealed the strain.
