Royals C Benito Santiago will miss six to eight weeks after breaking his left hand in Kansas City's 10-4 victory over the Phillies last night.

Santiago left the game after he was hit by a pitch from Geoff Geary in the sixth inning. He hit a three-run homer in the first inning, and is hitting .274 with six homers and 23 RBI in his first season with Kansas City.

* SUSPENDED: Pirates RHP Salomon Torres was suspended for four games for throwing at Oakland's Damien Miller on June 12, and Manager Lloyd McClendon was suspended for one game.

McClendon was suspended because Torres' actions came after a warning had been issued.

Torres will appeal the decision and continue to play until his case is heard. McClendon will serve his suspension today.

* INJURY REPORT: An MRI exam on Red Sox RHP Curt Schilling's sore right ankle showed no damage, the team's doctor said. Schilling is expected to start Tuesday against Minnesota. . . .

Florida RHP Josh Beckett expects to make his next start despite a strained back muscle. Beckett left Thursday night's game against the White Sox in the fourth inning after feeling a "pop" in his back.

* DEAL: The Yankees traded struggling LHP Gabe White back to the Reds for minor league pitcher Charlie Manning, a player to be named and cash.
