A rare Columbus Crew own goal and a score by Colorado forward Jean Philippe Peguero gave the visiting Rapids a 2-1 victory last night.

Colorado is unbeaten in its last three games.

Second-half substitute Edson Buddle scored for the Crew in the 89th minute, but Columbus missed a chance to tie in extra time when Chad Marshall's header was cleared off the Colorado goal line by midfielder Chris Henderson.

Both teams missed promising scoring opportunities in the first half before Colorado connected in the 37th minute. Midfielder Matt Crawford crossed a ball into the penalty area from the left side, where it was met by Peguero.

Peguero bulled past Crew midfielder Eric Denton and fired the ball by goalkeeper Jon Busch from seven yards for his fourth goal of the season.

* WIZARDS 1, EARTHQUAKES 1: Richard Mulrooney scored his first goal of the season in the 79th minute to give San Jose a tie with visiting Kansas City.

Mulrooney scored with a left-footed shot from 18 yards after being set up by Brian Mullan and Landon Donovan.

Kansas City's Jose Burciaga Jr., opened the scoring in the final seconds of the first half with his first career goal. Chris Klein passed to a wide-open Burciaga, who fired a shot from 16 yards into the upper-left corner of the goal.

Kansas City (6-4-4) took a one-point lead over Los Angeles in the Western Conference standings, while the Earthquakes (4-3-5) remained in third place.

* REVOLUTION 2, METROSTARS 1: Felix Brillant and Clint Dempsey scored early in the second half to lead New England at home. The Revolution (3-7-3) snapped a three-match losing streak and ended a two-game winning streak for New York/New Jersey (5-4-4).

New England took the lead on a goal by Brillant in the 64th minute. Dempsey scored his fourth goal of the season in the 67th minute. Passes from midfielder Patrick Noonan fed both goals.
