College Basketball

MCI Center will be the site of first- and second-round games in the 2008 NCAA men's basketball tournament, the NCAA men's basketball committee announced this week. Georgetown University will host the games, which are set for March 20 and 22, 2008.

Georgetown also is a host for regional semifinals and finals of the 2006 tournament; those games will be played at MCI Center on March 24 and 26.

The University of Maryland's Comcast Center was selected as a first- and second-round regional site for the 2005 NCAA women's basketball tournament. The games will be played on March 20 and 22.

Hockey

Seven-time all-star winger Mark Recchi signed a three-year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins yesterday. . . .

Center Mike Ricci, the captain of the San Jose Sharks last season, signed a two-year contract with the Phoenix Coyotes.

Pro Basketball

The Minnesota Timberwolves hired New York Knicks advance scout Jim Stack as their general manager. Stack replaces Rob Babcock, who left last month to become Toronto's general manager. . . .

Memphis Grizzlies guard Troy Bell will miss at least two months after surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee.
