Yankees RHP Mike Mussina went on the disabled list with a sore right elbow yesterday, two days before he was scheduled to return to the rotation.

Mussina said he woke up yesterday with the elbow so stiff he couldn't touch his right shoulder. He said he thinks he tweaked it while batting in an interleague game against the Mets earlier this month.

"They decided I'm not going to pitch Sunday because of how I feel," Mussina said.

Mussina, who has fluid in his elbow, will be eligible to come off the DL on July 22.

* MEDICAL UPDATES: Cubs RHP Mark Prior has irritation in the lining around the bone of his elbow, but there is no structural damage in the ligament or nerve, tests showed. GM Jim Hendry said there is no immediate plan to put Prior on the DL. . . . White Sox DH Frank Thomas is expected to miss eight weeks with a broken bone in his left foot. Thomas was placed on the DL last Saturday with inflammation in his ankle, but an MRI exam taken this week revealed a stress fracture in his foot, the team said. No surgery will be necessary.

* NO DEAL: Blue Jays 1B Carlos Delgado said he won't waive his no-trade clause, preferring instead to stay in Toronto to finish the final year of his $64 million contract.
