Astros P Andy Pettitte has a small tear in a tendon in his left elbow, and he might have to return to the disabled list for the third time this season.

Pettitte's sore elbow forced him out of his start Monday against the Diamondbacks after the fifth inning. Team officials plan to evaluate the injury over the next couple of days before deciding on a course of action.

"I don't know what I'm going to do," Pettitte said before yesterday's game against Arizona. "[Wednesday] I'm going to throw and play catch to see how it feels. I'm planning on pitching Saturday."

Injuries have limited Pettitte to just 13 starts since signing with his hometown Astros in the offseason. Pettitte is 6-4 with a 4.11 ERA after a 4-1 loss Monday night.

* BURKE HURTING: White Sox C Jamie Burke had a mild concussion and was sore after he was run over at the plate the night before by the Twins' Torii Hunter.

Burke underwent several tests and spent the night in a Chicago hospital, but said he held no hard feelings toward Hunter, although he said it was possible the collision could have been avoided.

"I feel that he could have run straight into home plate and slid around. I pretty much gave him the whole plate. He's playing the game aggressively and that's a free area right there," Burke said, adding he didn't consider the play a cheap shot.
