Cornell Glen and Amado Guevara scored to lead the New York/New Jersey MetroStars to a 2-1 victory at Kansas City last night, snapping the Wizards' nine-game unbeaten streak.

The win was the MetroStars' third in their last four games and extended their lead in the MLS's Eastern Conference. Chris Klein scored for the Wizards (9-5-5), who hadn't lost since June 2.

The East-leading MetroStars (8-6-5) scored in the 23rd minute, when John Wolyniec laid a ball off for an onrushing Glen, who one-timed a shot past goalkeeper Tony Meola.

Klein tied it 14 minutes later on a penalty kick. Klein had another penalty kick early in the second half, but Jonny Walker guessed correctly and made the save. Guevara scored on a free kick from just outside the box in the 66th minute. . . .

Edson Buddle scored twice on passes from Simon Elliott to lead the Columbus Crew to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Dallas Burn. Buddle scored in the 38th and 43rd minutes to give the Crew (6-5-6) a 2-0 lead. Jason Kreis had a goal in the 59th minute for Dallas (6-7-5), which didn't get off another shot. . . .

Goals by Jean Philippe Peguero and Mark Chung lifted the Colorado Rapids (6-5-8) to a 2-0 victory over the visiting Chicago Fire (4-8-7). . . .

Craig Beattie scored in the 71st minute to give Glasgow Celtic a 2-1 victory over Manchester United in an exhibition in Philadelphia. Chris Sutton had scored for Celtic in the ninth minute on a penalty kick, but Alan Smith tied it in the 35th minute.
