The Ravens are in the midst of contract negotiations with T Jonathan Ogden, according to reports in yesterday's Baltimore Sun.
"I'm assuming it's because of the salary cap. That's my conclusion," Ogden said yesterday. "It's not something where I was calling up my agent, saying, 'Let's renegotiate.' "
Ogden, a graduate of St. Albans, signed a six-year contract extension in August 2000 that made him the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history. A new deal would allow the seven-time Pro Bowler to finish his career with the Ravens.
"That's the goal," Ogden said. "Eight years in, this is year nine [in Baltimore]. Four more years or so, five more years, and then I'm done." . . .
T Orlando Brown was absent from practice yesterday because his mother is in the hospital and he is unlikely to play against Atlanta. "We certainly want to keep [Brown's family situation] the priority," Coach Brian Billick said. "We want to make sure he's comfortable and on top of that before we put him in a game situation."
LB Peter Boulware (knee), QB Anthony Wright (shoulder), RB B.J. Sams (thumb), TE Trent Smith (leg), DT Matt Zielinski (knee) and CB Chris McAlister (contract dispute) will not play against the Falcons.
