Position: Inside linebacker.
Height: 5 feet 11.
Weight: 243 pounds.
Claim to Fame: Rookie free agent signed with the Ravens in late April. Had 10 sacks as a senior and finished his career with 13, which puts him fifth on the Bears' all-time list. Was a teammate of Ravens CB Gary Baxter at Baylor during the 2000 season.
If He Doesn't Make It: "I have one more semester of school, so I'd go back to Baylor and finish my degree," Garrett said. "My degree is in outdoor education, so I'd probably work with kids at a rec center. And I'd be fixing up old hot rods. That's what I like to do."
Chances of Making the Team: Slim. Garrett has made some big plays -- he had a 50-yard interception return in the Ravens' scrimmage last week, and came up with an interception during 11-on-11 drills on Monday and Tuesday -- but he is trying to win a spot at a position where Baltimore has great talent, experience and depth.
The Ravens made it through Thursday's preseason game relatively unscathed; only three players were listed on the postgame injury report, all with minor ailments: QB Kyle Boller (right elbow contusion), WR Todd Devoe (finger sprain) and LS Joe Maese (left knee/ankle strain).
Odds and Ends
Free agent Daniel Wilcox seems to be solidifying his hold on the third tight end spot. He had two touchdown catches in the Ravens' 24-0 preseason win over Atlanta on Thursday, and he also had the winning touchdown catch in the team's intrasquad scrimmage Aug. 6. Wilcox, a converted wide receiver, was signed by the Ravens in late June after short stints with Tampa Bay and the New York Jets.
Boller, who said that he didn't know anything about Wilcox when he joined the team, has been impressed. "It's funny, you know, because every day Coach looks at tape and he's always there, he's always finishing plays," Boller said. . . .
Punt returner Lamont Brightful, who is facing competition from rookie Derek Abney, fumbled on a return inside the Falcons 40-yard line. Abney, who had been very inconsistent early in camp, had two returns for a total of 15 yards. . . .
Thursday's shutout was the Ravens' third in their preseason history. The 24-point margin of victory was their largest since a 38-9 win over the New York Giants in 2001.
