New Face

Roderick Green

Position: Outside linebacker.

College: Central Missouri State.

Height: 6 feet 2.

Weight: 245 pounds.

Claim to Fame: Selected by the Ravens in the fifth round (153rd overall) of the 2004 draft. Division II all-American had 63 tackles and seven sacks as a senior.

If He Doesn't Make It: "I'd try to finish up school. I'm going to school for physical education, so I might do a little coaching, like seventh grade [teams] or something like that," said Green, who grew up in Texas and, as a teenager, occasionally worked on an oil rig alongside his father.

Chances of Making It: Good. Green has impressive physical skills, and linebackers coach Jeff Fitzgerald has spent extra time with him to help him make the transition from defensive end (his college position) to outside linebacker.

G Casey Rabach suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee and will be re-examined tomorrow; he is listed as day-to-day. TE Brett Pierce sprained his left ankle and is also day-to-day. WR-PR Derek Abney (separated shoulder), CB Fred Weary (quadriceps) and WR Travis Taylor (groin) sat out yesterday's practices. Weary and Taylor are expected back tomorrow; Abney said he wasn't sure when he'd return.

Odds and Ends

LB T.J. Slaughter crushed FB Ovie Mughelli during red zone drills, on a day when the hitting seemed to be more intense. . . . Rookie WR Devard Darling did a nice job to corral a wobbly pass from QB Kyle Boller in the corner of the end zone. Darling started in place of Taylor in Thursday's preseason game against Atlanta but didn't make a catch (three passes were thrown his way, but all were short). . . . Coach Brian Billick praised rookie DT Dwan Edwards's performance against Atlanta. "We saw all of the things that drew us to Dwan, in terms of his physicality and his motor," Billick said of the Ravens' top draft pick. . . .

The Ravens moved their afternoon practice to their new indoor facility in Owings Mills, Md., because of Hurricane Charley. . . . The Ravens issued a statement from Billick regarding Jamal Lewis's Nov. 1 trial date, in which he said that the team will "deal with the circumstances involved in his due process as they arise" and, "at the strong suggestion of Jamal's attorneys, not address these matters publicly or with the media."
