A shooting, apparently fueled by alcohol during a tailgate party, kills two people just prior to N.C. State's game against visiting Richmond. Timothy Johnson, 22, and his brother Tony Johnson, 20, are charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Kevin McCann and Brett Harman. Reports indicate that someone hurled a beer carton at Tony Johnson's car, sparking the altercation.

An Indiana University police officer is hit on the head with a beer bottle when he intervenes in a dispute that began with a mud-wrestling match gone awry prior to the Hoosiers' game with Purdue. Seventy officers from four police departments eventually restore order.
