Sportscaster Frank Herzog, who was fired as the Washington Redskins play-by-play announcer on WJFK earlier this year, will debut a Redskins postgame talk show called "Overtime with Frank Herzog" on WTEM-980 starting Sunday.

"We are very excited to have Frank back on our team," said Tod Castleberry, operations manager for WTEM. "He's always been a friend of the station."

Herzog has been sports director of WUSA-9, anchoring the 5, 6 and 11 p.m. sports broadcasts and was part of the "Sonny, Sam & Frank" radio broadcast team for 23 years at WJFK until earlier this year, when he was replaced by Larry Michael. WUSA recently announced that it did not renew Herzog's contract as sports director and he is expected to leave the station before the end of the year.

The "Overtime" show isn't Herzog's first broadcast on WTEM. He was the host of a show that the station did with Sonny Jurgensen and Sam Huff called "the Lunch Bunch" when the station had the rights to the Redskins games nine years ago, Castleberry said.

Castleberry said the new show is designed to capitalize on Herzog's knowledge of the team from his play-by-play coverage for more than two decades.

"We're glad to have Frank back doing a talk show with us," Castleberry said. "Fans are going to have a chance to interact and talk about the game after every Redskins game."

Herzog's new one-hour show will follow Joe Jacoby and Andy Pollin's "Fifth Quarter" postgame analysis show on WTEM, which includes locker room reports and the Joe Gibbs postgame news conference.
