Paul Pasqualoni, Syracuse coach
Couldn't this guy have occupied this space for, oh, say, the past five years? And think about how entrenched he is following last week's 51-0 pasting at Purdue. That's 51-0.
The Orange followed up two mediocre years by going 10-3 in 2001, but that now looks like an aberration. Since beating Kansas State in the Insight.com Bowl following that season, the Orange is 10-15. And even the 2001 season included a 59-0 loss to Miami.
Hmmm. Seems like a trend. Look back at Pasqualoni's 13 years. He now has seven losses of 40 points or more.
Pasqualoni could save his job, but after tonight, the nonconference slate features games at Virginia and home against Florida State. Those figure to be losses. The only sure wins on the schedule look to be tonight against Buffalo, Nov. 13 at Temple, and maybe -- maybe -- Cincinnati next week. Everything else, including Connecticut and Rutgers, appears to be at best 50-50.
The battle to be the man who will spend the most time On The Spot should be close between Pasqualoni and North Carolina's John Bunting. Keep watching.
