DeMatha running back Anthony Wiseman received good news yesterday when doctors determined that he had only strained the ligaments in his left knee and he could return to the field in a few weeks, Stags Coach Bill McGregor said.

Wiseman, a senior who has said he will accept a scholarship to play at Maryland, was injured returning a punt during a 12-9 victory over Gilman last Friday. McGregor said he had been concerned that Wiseman had torn ligaments.

Wiseman rushed for team highs of 852 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. . . .

DeMatha has kicked off a fundraising campaign to fund a school-wide renovation that the Hyattsville private school hopes will include the building of a convocation center with a gymnasium. Preliminary plans call for a gym with capacity of around 1,200 and construction could begin in 2006, principal Dan McMahon said.

Paying to Park

Fans attending the Jesuit Gridiron Classic on Saturday between No. 18 Gonzaga and Georgetown Prep will have to pay $5 to park on the Prep campus in Rockville. The money, along with revenue from ticket sales and concessions, will go to Washington Jesuit Academy, a new middle school in Northeast Washington.

Tickets for the teams' first meeting since 1988 are only available through advance sale at either school at $10 each, or $5 for students of either school. Prep Athletic Director Dan Paro said that, as of yesterday, 5,000 tickets had been sold.
