Game of the Day

Houston at San Francisco. The Giants have been closing on West leader Los Angeles, and the Dodgers have been showing signs of spitting the bit lately. The Astros, meantime, have made a stunning post-trade deadline run to get in the wild-card mix.

Player to Watch

Curt Schilling, Boston. He goes for win No. 21 tonight against the Orioles. Despite his major league-leading win total, he seems to be regarded as the second choice for the AL Cy Young behind the eminently worthy Johan Santana of the Twins. After Boston buckled in the final two games of its series in the Bronx, Schilling could use a solid start to ease the worrying minds of a Nation.
