Game of the Day

With San Francisco idle today, Chicago can increase its wild-card lead to a full game if the Cubs beat Cincinnati tonight.

Player to Watch

Chicago Cubs right-hander Carlos Zambrano, who starts tonight, is the team's hottest pitcher. Zambrano, tied with Greg Maddux with a team-high 15 victories, has the second-lowest ERA in the National League (2.64).

Angels Suspend Guillen

Angels left fielder Jose Guillen was suspended for the rest of the season and possibly the playoffs for his outburst after being lifted for a pinch runner on Saturday.

Guillen was informed of the club's decision after batting practice, when the Angels closed their clubhouse for 75 minutes. Anaheim said he was being suspended without pay.

By the Numbers

The Oakland Athletics' ERA in September entering their game last night, the worst among teams contending for a playoff spot.

The Red Sox sold out all 81 of their homes games this season, drawing a club record 2,837,304 people to Fenway Park.

3 for 5

But not that 3 for 5. Giants catcher A.J. Pierzynski made the final out in three of the first five innings, stranding four runners and grounding into his major league-leading 25th double play in the fifth. Giants fans cheered when Manager Felipe Alou pulled him from the game in the sixth on a double switch.
