Although being ranked No. 1 by The Post is a first for Good Counsel's football team, it's a familiar feeling for the Falcons' legendary coach, Bob Milloy.

Behind a 32-yard fumble return by Reggie Gooch and a 70-yard punt return by Tyrell Jones, Good Counsel defeated previously top-ranked and undefeated DeMatha, 31-21, in front of 5,500 spectators Friday in Wheaton to grab the top spot. It was Milloy's first win over DeMatha in four attempts and Good Counsel's first since 1996.

Milloy said his teams have finished the season ranked No. 1 or co-No. 1 four times, most recently in 1995 and 1996 at Sherwood.

"We've got a lot of football left to play," said Milloy, whose Falcons improved to 7-0, 4-0 in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference. "It's not over. You lose just once and you're not going to finish number one."

The Falcons will face Gonzaga (6-1, 3-1) on Saturday at 1 p.m. and will then play St. John's (5-2, 3-1) before closing out the regular season against Paul VI Catholic (1-6, 1-3).
