Potomac sophomore running back Deante Steele has heard a lot about how his father, Derek, was a great athlete at Mount Vernon High School nearly 25 years ago. But he has never seen footage of the All-Met football and basketball player who "taught me everything I know."
"I'm trying to get a tape," the younger Steele said.
To avoid that problem for any curious future Steeles, the 5-foot-5, 153-pound Deante might want to save a copy of his game Friday at Stonewall Jackson. He rushed for touchdowns of 30 and 45 yards and turned two short passes from senior quarterback Mike McClain into 68- and 38-yard scores. He also returned a kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown.
It was Potomac's 10th straight win over Stonewall. The Panthers' victory knotted each team's record at 4-2, 2-1 atop the Cedar Run District. . . .
Good Counsel's 31-21 victory over DeMatha yielded the most points allowed by the Stags in 115 games. . . .
No. 2 Northwest (7-0) has scored 40 or more points in five games this season and topped 50 points twice. The Jaguars' lowest point total was 27 in their victory over sixth-ranked Damascus. . . .
Last Thursday's game between Friendly and DuVal, postponed after a DuVal player was killed in a car accident last Wednesday, will not be made up.
