Everyone talks about the quarterback class of 1983, but Ben Roethlisberger and Craig Krenzel are doing their best to make people remember the class of '04. Tony Eason, John Elway, Gary Kubiak and Dan Marino led their teams to a combined 14-10 record in '83. But Roethlisberger and Krenzel are a combined 10-0, with rookie Eli Manning getting the call for the Giants today. . . .

Speaking of young Manning, his older brother, Colts quarterback Peyton, didn't have many words of wisdom for him. "His only piece of advice was, 'If they call out the offense before the game, don't trip running out,' " Eli Manning said. "That was really the only thing he said." . . .

Stats show that teams that can get to the quarterback have been successful this season. Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Baltimore are tied for the league lead in sacks with 28 each, and they're a combined 22-5. If you add Atlanta (27 sacks), Detroit (26) and New England (26), the combined record of all those teams is 41-13. . . .

NFL games are averaging 42.3 points this season, the second-highest through 10 weeks since 1990 and the fourth-highest since the 16-game schedule was introduced in 1978. Much of the scoring has come in recent weeks, since games were averaging only 38.5 points through the first four weeks. . . .

Boxes of Wheaties bearing the likeness of the Colts' Manning go on sale nationally next week. Shouldn't a player have to win some sort of championship to earn that honor? Going 6-3 shouldn't count.
