Nationals: 2B Jamey Carroll was out of the starting lineup for the second straight game, resting a sprained left ankle. Carroll said he is ready to play, but Manager Frank Robinson said it's possible he'll sit out the weekend series against Seattle.

Mets: C Mike Piazza was held out of the lineup for the team's game against the Astros, one night after taking a foul ball off his left wrist. Piazza didn't think his bruised wrist would send him to the DL, but he thought he would be sidelined for the next couple of days.

Athletics: Optioned OF Charles Thomas to Class AAA Sacramento and recalled OF Matt Watson from the minor league club.

Reds: RHP Luke Hudson was activated from the 15-day DL to start the final game of Cincinnati's interleague series against Tampa Bay.

Devil Rays: OF Rocco Baldelli is making progress rehabilitating his knee and could rejoin the team around the all-star break next month.

Brewers: RHP Gary Glover cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to Class AAA Nashville.

Padres: CF Dave Roberts missed his third straight game with a sore right shoulder.

Trade: Seattle dealt SS Wilson Valdez to San Diego for RHPs Mike Bumstead and R.D. Spiehs. Both were pitching for Class AAA Portland.
