"I'd much rather be with an organization that likes me as a player. I'm in a great situation, in an organization that wants to move you along."

Tampa Bay first-round pick Wade Townsend, a pitcher who signed yesterday after having spurned an offer -- for more money -- upon being drafted by the Orioles last year

Angels: Activated OF Vladimir Guerrero from the DL prior to last night's game against the Mets. Guerrero, the reigning AL most valuable player, partially dislocated his left shoulder on May 20.

Athletics: Texas A&M SS Cliff Pennington, the team's first-round draft choice, received a $1.45 million signing bonus. The A's probably will move Pennington to 2B because SS Bobby Crosby, the AL rookie of the year last season, is signed through 2009.

Devil Rays: RHP Rob Bell, on the disabled list since May 14 for personal and psychological reasons, was scheduled to begin a rehab assignment by starting for Class AAA Durham.

Starting pitchers the Rangers have used this year. A sixth, RHP Ricardo Rodriguez, is expected to start against the Marlins today.

Players with more than 500 home runs who played in the Orioles-Reds game last night, a first in major league history. The players were Cincinnati's Ken Griffey Jr. (511 homers, including one last night) and Baltimore's Sammy Sosa (580) and Rafael Palmeiro (559).
