Cardinals: CF Jim Edmonds didn't start for the second straight game because of bruised left ribs.

Diamondbacks: IF Alex Cintron expects to be back in time for the weekend series at Cleveland, after jamming his left wrist on a check swing Saturday against Kansas City.

Dodgers: Closer Eric Gagne could be headed back to the DL. The results of an MRI exam taken on Monday will be reviewed by doctors in California and they will decide what to do. He missed the first 35 games with a problem in the same right elbow.

Giants: DH Lance Niekro was scratched from the lineup after fouling a ball off of his foot in batting practice. Niekro, a first baseman, was scheduled to be the DH with the Giants playing in an AL ballpark at Minnesota. But Niekro fouled a batting practice pitch off his left big toe and was taken for X-rays.

Phillies: LHP Randy Wolf may need elbow ligament replacement surgery after an MRI exam revealed damage in his pitching elbow. Wolf was examined yesterday by team physician Michael Ciccotti, who recommended the operation. The pitcher will seek a second opinion this week.

After starting 1-4, Wolf has won five straight decisions. Rob Tejeda will start in Wolf's place Friday night in Oakland.
