White Sox: RHP Orlando Hernandez was placed on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his shoulder, his second trip to the DL this year. RHP Brandon McCarthy was recalled from Class AAA Charlotte and started last night's game against the Royals.

"El Duque wants to pitch every day," Manager Ozzie Guillen said. "Unfortunately, his arm is tired. I want him to understand the situation. We want what's best for him. And we want what's best for the team."

Royals: 1B Mike Sweeney was put on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left wrist and elbow before his team's game against the White Sox.

Kansas City also placed LHP Jeremy Affeldt (strained left groin) and RHP Ambiorix Burgos (strained rotator cuff) on the 15-day DL. The team called up LHP Jimmy Gobble from Class AAA Omaha and 1B Justin Huber from Class AA Wichita.
