Rookie Temeka Johnson scored 15 points and DeLisha Milton-Jones added 13 as the visiting Mystics defeated slumping Detroit, 69-55, last night.

Washington (6-6) won its third in a row and ended a three-game road losing streak.

"This gives us a boost," Johnson said. "We're happy to be back at .500. We'll take this step forward and see what happens from here on out."

Detroit, with Coach Bill Laimbeer a candidate for the New York Knicks job, is 1-5 since starting the season 4-0. Olympian Swin Cash has not played this season because of a knee injury.

Chasity Melvin scored 12 points and Coco Miller had 10 for Washington.

Deanna Nolan led all scorers with 16 points. The Mystics missed eight of their first 10 shots in the second half, but Detroit did not get closer than four.

* FEVER 57, LYNX 55: Tamika Catchings scored a career-low two points but had six assists and four steals for host Indiana. Minnesota's Katie Smith (17 points) missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.

* SUN 61, MONARCHS 50: In a battle of the league's conference leaders, Taj McWilliams-Franklin had 15 points and 14 rebounds and Nykesha Sales added 14 points as visiting Connecticut overcame a three-point halftime deficit.

* SPARKS 76, STORM 65: Chamique Holdsclaw had 27 points and 10 rebounds for host Los Angeles.
