Sheryl Swoopes scored 15 points and led the host Houston Comets to a 62-44 win over the San Antonio Silver Stars yesterday.
Michelle Snow added 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, helping the Comets improve to 3-0 this season against the struggling Silver Stars.
Janeth Arcain hit four of her 12 shots and was 6 for 6 from the free throw line, finishing with 14 points for the Comets. Houston (6-5) won back-to-back games -- both over San Antonio -- for the first time since taking two straight on May 29 and June 4.
Katie Feenstra came off the bench and scored a team-high 13 points for the Silver Stars (3-11), who scored a franchise low and fell to 0-7 against teams from the Western Conference. San Antonio is 1-7 on the road.
* STING 67, LIBERTY 61: Dawn Staley scored 16 points, including a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left, to help host Charlotte snap a six-game losing streak.
Tammy Sutton-Brown added 16 points and eight rebounds, Tangela Smith scored 16 points and Staley finished with eight assists for the Sting (2-9), which shot 51 percent and avoided matching the worst start in team history.
* SUN 77, MERCURY 69: In Phoenix, Nykesha Sales scored 22 points and Lindsay Whalen added a career-high 20 to lead Connecticut. The Sun (10-2) made nine of 10 free throws in the final 8 minutes 33 seconds help seal the win.
