While some Potomac Nationals will hang around the Washington area or head back to their homes during the all-star break this week, others will participate in the 2005 Carolina League vs. California League All-Star Game tonight at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick.
In their first half-season as the high Class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, four Potomac Nationals landed spots on the Carolina League all-star roster. Third baseman Kory Casto, pitcher Armando Galarraga, catcher Salomon Manriquez and first baseman Josh Whitesell were selected from the Nationals. The host Frederick Keys will have good representation as well, lending four players to the Carolina League cause: pitcher Chris Britton, outfielder Mario Delgado, outfielder Nick Markakis and second baseman Nate Spears.
The Nationals' Casto will start at third base, while Markakis -- the No. 1 prospect in the Baltimore Orioles organization -- will start in the outfield and Delgado will be the designated hitter.
As the host team, the Keys will also have their coaching staff in the dugout with Manager Bien Figueroa leading the way. Markakis will participate in the home run derby tonight. He's third on the team in homers with nine.
Gates open at 2 p.m. with the home run derby beginning at 5:30p.m. The game will begin at 6:35 p.m., followed by fireworks.
