Marlins: RHP Josh Beckett threw a bullpen session and hopes to be activated from the disabled list in time to start Thursday against the Braves.

Beckett worked about 14 minutes, 10 without protection on the blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand. The blister issue has sent him to the disabled list six times in his four full major league seasons.

Rangers: C Gerald Laird was recalled from Class AAA Oklahoma and started last night against the Angels. IF Marshall McDougall was optioned to Oklahoma.

Others: John Rocker was released by the Long Island Ducks after he told the Atlantic League team he wanted to reassess his future. The 30-year-old LHP joined the Ducks in April and went 0-2 with a 6.50 ERA in 23 games, striking out 19 and walking 28 in 18 innings.

Rocker had 38 saves for Atlanta in 1999 and 24 the following year, then was traded to Cleveland during the 2001 season, when he had for 23 saves for the Braves and Indians.
