Angels: Placed SS Orlando Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list with an inflamed elbow. To replace Cabrera on the roster, the Angels recalled OF Curtis Pride from Class AAA Salt Lake.

Devil Rays: Placed IF Eric Munson on the 15-day disabled list with bruised ribs and purchased the contract of OF Chris Singleton from Class AAA Durham.

Red Sox: Placed reliever Matt Mantei on the 15-day disabled list with a ligament sprain in his left ankle and recalled pitcher Abe Alvarez from Class AAA Pawtucket. Mantei, a right-hander, is 1-0 with a 6.49 ERA. He's walked 24 batters in 261/3 innings.

1932: The first Sunday game was played at Fenway Park, with the Red Sox losing to the Yankees, 13-2.

1970: Using only 98 pitches, Angels hurler Clyde Wright, the father of current Yankees pitcher Jaret Wright, no-hit the Athletics in 1 hour 51 minutes.

1973: For the only time in their careers, the Perry brothers (the Tigers' Jim and the Indians' Gaylord) opposed one another. Gaylord took the loss, but neither finished the game.

1983: The visiting Rangers scored 12 times in the 15th inning against the Athletics, the most runs scored by a team in extra innings. Texas won, 16-4.
