Rangers: Slugger Mark Teixeira was given a break from the heat, serving as the designated hitter for the second time this season. Adrian Gonzalez, recalled from the minors on Saturday, got the start at first base in place of Teixeira.

Royals: DH-1B Mike Sweeney, who was hit by a pitch on the hand Friday on his 32nd birthday, missed a second straight game. He is expected to play tonight.
