Indians: DH Travis Hafner will take batting practice today and do some running, Manager Eric Wedge said. Hafner is on the DL with post-concussive symptoms after being hit in the face with a pitch on July 16. He is eligible to come off the DL on Tuesday.

Mariners: C Pat Borders was designated for assignment. To fill his roster spot, C Wiki Gonzalez was recalled from Class AAA Tacoma. . . . Manager Mike Hargrove said IF Yuniesky Betancourt would start at shortstop today. Betancourt has played his first two major league games at second, but played shortstop in the minors.

Red Sox: RHP Wade Miller was scratched from his scheduled start last night because of stiffness in his pitching shoulder. RHP Bronson Arroyo replaced Miller on the mound. LHP David Wells will start today.

Yankees: Recalled LHP Wayne Franklin from Class AAA Columbus. . . . RHP Carl Pavano, on the DL since June 28 with right shoulder tendinitis, will make a rehab start Wednesday. . . . RHP Jaret Wright, on the DL since April with a sore shoulder, will make a rehab start today in Florida.
